Weekly Newsletter – October 18

Dear Bates School Families: 10/18/18

This week, many of our staff members are attending the annual Social Thinking Conference! At the Bates, we value social-emotional learning that prepares our students for present and future success.  Inclusion means everyone, and we work diligently to build a school community where every child feels valued for everything he/she/they bring to their classroom. We focus on developing strong social-emotional learners through the integration of the Social Thinking Curriculum and Zones of Regulation. Ask your child about “whole body listening” or “following the whole group plan” or the any one of the “zones.” This vocabulary supports our young learners in explaining their emotions and needs.

Below are some updates:

Families of Grades K2, 1st grade, and 2nd grade:

Your child’s classroom teacher and the Science specialist are using the Seesaw app to share student work with families. If you have not yet signed up, you should have received an orange note with an attached QR code with instructions for how to join your child’s Science class journal. Now, this will automatically sign you up for the classroom journal as well. If you have questions about signing up to see your child’s classwork, email Mrs. Roberts Keddy, the Science specialist, at jroberts@bostonpublicschools.org.  If you have general questions about the Seesaw app, go to https://help.seesaw.me/hc/en-us/categories/115000881123-Families

Check in at Office

Families must check in at the office during the school day when they enter the building. We thank you for ensuring our building stay safe and secure.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is filling up. If your child is returning home without a jacket, bag, gloves, or other articles, please check out our lost and found area to see if it is there. We also suggest that you use a permanent marker to put children’s names on jackets or bookbags. Many thanks!
