Dear Bates School Community,
Our nation has been rocked by incidents of violence that are becoming unacceptably too common. Events of the last week, including the shootings in Pittsburgh and Kentucky, and the mailing of pipe bombs to numerous public figures, leave a toll on our community members, both our young students and our adult staff and family members. There are a few resources that can help support our own emotional health and that of our children.
Some links to useful resources are provided here:

HealthyChildren.org is sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics. This page can also be translated into Spanish.
I also want to assure you that the Bates School has routines and protocols in place to promote and ensure the safety of your children, as this is our number one priority. We have conducted fire drills and practiced safety mode, and will do so again across the school year. Over the last school year we have updated our intercom system and have installed new doors with added security measures, including key cards for all staff members.
Our thoughts are with all of the families who have lost someone.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me or call the school.
With gratitude and appreciation.
Rodolfo Morales, Principal
