Dear Bates School Families
I want to thank all our amazing families for making this such an amazing start to the school year! Thank you for being as excited as we are about all the learning and fun that students will surely have this year. Over the summer, our team worked diligently to prepare the school for your children. Mr. Mike and Mr. Eric made sure the school classrooms and hallways were spotless. Mr. Prisby, Ms. Buckley and I worked on grants for healthy snacks for children (see Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program below), our school site and family council met to plan for community events like our upcoming Ice Cream Social. Our teachers took courses and planned units and Ms. Cindy made folders for each student to bring home on week 1 with pertinent beginning of year information. There is no way to express the immense amount of gratitude I have for this team.
Thank you to all the families that came to our Open House and Potluck. If you were unable to make it, please e-mail or check in with your child’s teachers so you can receive a copy of the grade’s syllabus. I ask that ALL families take 5 minutes to answer a few questions about our open house/potluck. Your feedback will help us as we plan for future open houses.

9/18 Ice Cream Social 5:30-7:30 Flyers have been sent home*
All families of all grades are invited our Bates Family Council to enjoy some ice cream and build community. This will surely be an event to remember!
The Bates will be piloting a program to train parents and/or family members to volunteer in classrooms. Families will not volunteer in their own child’s class, but they will be given the opportunity to help the school community by sharing their skills and knowledge! Families can help by supporting small group learning, visual arts helper, Spanish speakers to help in Spanish class, lunch monitor support, reading to students, tutoring and more! Please note that this is a 1 hour minimum commitment per week. We will only be able to host a small number of volunteers as we pilot this program. Fresh Fruits and Vegetables at the Bates!
The Bates School is excited to announce that they will be the recipient of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) this year. FFVP funds fresh produce snacks for elementary school students, in addition to breakfast and lunch, and serves as a vehicle for nutrition education. The goal of the FFVP is to improve children’s overall diet and create healthier eating habits to impact their present and future health. This year, FFVP is serving up healthy, fresh produce snacks three times each week at Bates Elementary School. This program is not only increasing children’s fruit and vegetable consumption, it is also expanding the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience.
Fire Drill and Safe Mode:
The Bates school will hold a fire drill and a safety mode drill on Thursday morning. Teachers will have conversations with students so they know that these drill are just practice so that we are ready to always be at our safest. We ask that you also discuss with your child that they might hear a loud alarm during the fire drill and that it is just practice for now. Let them know it is important to listen to the adults in the building and to be silent as they walk calmly through their fire drill route.
Emergency Contact
Make sure to fill out the emergency contact sheet as soon as possible. Let us know if you need any support filling it out.
eCORI
Family members who wish to volunteer at the school or be chaperones for field trips must complete BPS’s new “eCORI” form. To complete the form please go online to bit.ly/bpscori and follow the instructions.

Estimadas familias de la Escuela Bates,
¡Quiero agradecer a todas nuestras familias por hacer este un comienzo del año escolar tan increíble! Gracias por estar tan emocionados como nosotros por todo el aprendizaje y la diversión que los estudiantes seguramente tendrán este año. Durante el verano, nuestro equipo trabajó diligentemente para preparar la escuela para sus hijos. El Sr. Mike y el Sr. Eric se aseguraron de que las aulas y los pasillos de la escuela estuvieran impecables. El Sr. Prisby, la Sra. Buckley, y yo trabajamos en un programa para proveer meriendas más saludables para niños (vea el Programa de frutas y verduras frescas a continuación), nuestro sitio escolar y el consejo familiar se reunieron para planificar eventos comunitarios como nuestro próximo Ice Cream Social. Nuestros maestros tomaron cursos y unidades planificadas y la Sra. Cindy hizo carpetas para que cada estudiante llevará a casa la semana 1 con la información pertinente al comienzo del año. No hay forma de expresar la inmensa gratitud que tengo por este equipo.
Gracias a todas las familias que vinieron a nuestro Open House y Potluck. Programa de voluntariado para familias
Nuestra escuela está buscando familiares interesados en participar y ayudar en las clases con diferentes proyectos. Las familias no podrán estar en las mismas aulas de sus niños pero pueden ayudar a otros maestros! Usted puede ayudar en la clases con grupos pequeños de estudiantes, clases de arte, ayudar en la clase de español, durante la merienda y el recreo y mas! ¡Frutas y verduras frescas en Bates!
La Escuela Bates se complace en anunciar que recibirán el Programa de Frutas y Verduras Frescas (FFVP) este año. FFVP financia refrigerios de productos frescos para estudiantes de primaria, además de desayuno y almuerzo, y sirve como vehículo para la educación nutricional. El objetivo del FFVP es mejorar la dieta general de los niños y crear hábitos alimenticios más saludables que afecten su salud presente y futura. Este año, FFVP sirve bocadillos frescos y saludables tres veces por semana en la Escuela Primaria Bates. Este programa no solo aumenta el consumo de frutas y verduras de los niños, sino que también amplía la variedad de frutas y verduras que los niños experimentan.
Simulacro de incendio y modo seguro:
La escuela Bates llevará a cabo un simulacro de incendio y un simulacro de modo de seguridad el jueves por la mañana. Los maestros tendrán conversaciones con los estudiantes para que sepan que estos ejercicios son sólo una práctica, de modo que estamos listos para estar siempre a salvo. Le pedimos que también discuta con su hijo que pueden escuchar una alarma fuerte durante el simulacro de incendio y que es solo una práctica por ahora. Hágales saber que es importante escuchar a los adultos en el edificio y guardar silencio mientras caminan con calma por su ruta de simulacro de incendio.
